What a question looks like

Use this practice well
Choose an easier level to establish accurate sums before increasing the number range. Have learners show a number line, place-value sketch, or written calculation for questions they miss.
What this develops
Generate addition questions with a choice of level and regrouping practice.
A mistake to watch for
When carrying, a learner may add the carried ten to the wrong column. Line up digits by place value.
Ways to use it
- Warm up at the start of a lesson.
- Print a short reteaching sheet after an error.
- Use the answer key for immediate self-checking.
Scope and limits
Questions practise numeric sums; they do not assess every addition strategy.
